Prognoz-8-satellite data are used to investigate an interplanetary disturbance from a series of three intense solar flares which arose in an active region near the helioprojection of the earth in May 1981. Plasma and magnetic measurements showed that the disturbance was characterized by a complete absence of intense fast shock waves, a very high particle concentration, and an equality of temperatures of protons and alpha particles. These features confirm the hypothesis of the intense attenuation of shock waves from series flares due to their interaction with each other and with flare ejections long before arrival at the earth.
