The distribution of the shock normal angles ThetaBn is calculated for all heliocentric distances for the case where Thetan is the angle between the upstream magnetic field (B1), and n is the shock normal angle. It is assumed that the average shock normal angle propagates approximately in a radial direction. The distribution of each component of (B1) is obtained from observations by Helios 1, Helios 2, Voyager 1, and Pioneer 10 spacecraft, and is assumed to be Gaussian. It is shown that even close to the sun, the probability of observation of parallel and quasi-parallel shocks is still smaller in comparison to the possibility of observing quasi-perpendicular and perpendicular shocks. On the basis of the probability calculations, it is shown that the parallel and quasi-parallel shocks do not easily form in the solar wind because of the fluctuating characteristics of B1 and n and not because of any physical mechanism.
