Much observational and theoretical evidence supports the idea that the young Sun passed through a high-activity or T Tau phase. Among the various phenomena of activity a high flux of energetic (≡MeV) protons is expected. Some solid-state effects induced by ion fluence on solid surfaces are discussed on the basis of recent experimental results. In particular it is shown that erosion by particles is a very important destruction mechanism for ice grains in a large range of grain dimensions and distances from the Sun. This should significantly contribute to sweep out material from the solar system in its early evolutive stage. The release of new molecules in the gas phase and the synthesis of new organic materials from simple gases condensed on solid substrates are discussed. The laboratory infrared features of the new polymer-like materials are compared with spectra observed in organic compounds extracted from some meteorites.
