The Sun's magnetic field plays the most vital role in creating, maintaining and structuring all the interesting phenomena we observe in the solar atmosphere. In particular, recent observations from Yohkoh, SOHO and TRACE reveal the corona to be a complex and dynamic environment where the magnetic field interacts with the solar plasma over a wide range of time-scales. In this paper we shall investigate a number of solar features using the equations of Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). In Section 2 the basic MHD equations are introduced along with some simplifying assumptions. An examination of possible wave modes in the solar atmosphere is outlined in Section 3. Section 4 investigates magnetohydrostatic solutions while Section 5 introduces several MHD theories for coronal heating.
