The relativistic distorted wave method described by Sampson & Zhang for calculating collision strengths for hyperfine structure transitions is applied to several H-like and Li-like ions having non-zero nuclear spin and relatively high estimated astrophysical abundances. The collision strengths and effective (Maxwellian-averaged) collision strengths are obtained for a wide range of energies and temperatures.
