This contribution summarizes briefly some previous findings based on ISOGAL, MACHO and DENIS observations and goes on to include outlines of two projects now in progress: (I) A complete sample of M stars in the Baade's Window NGC 6522 field is being investigated using the MACHO, ISOGAL, DENIS and 2MASS databases to determine how variability and mass-loss are related to spectral sub-type. (II) The (MACHO) light curves of the defining stars of the infrared LMC mira period-luminosity relations are being analysed to check on their periods and to determine whether new information can reduce the scatter.
