This catalogue forms the largest uniform catalogue of local HI sources compiled to date, giving a new perspective on the local universe. Using the data of the HI Parkes All-Sky Survey (HIPASS), covering the entire sky dec < +25deg with a velocity range -1280 to 12,700 km/s, the southern region of the survey (dec < +2deg) has now been searched to full survey depth yielding ~4500 sources. Issues presently under examination include the HI structure and dynamics of the local universe, the HI mass function, galaxy groups and clusters, the 2-point correlation function and the Tully-Fisher relation.
