The field of high energy astrophysics is enjoying an very exciting and dynamic period driven largely by a new generation of experimental programs to observe photons and cosmic rays from space and from the Earth with energies from about 1 keV up through as high as 10^21 eV. In recent years individual sub-areas of high energy astrophysics -- especially x-ray astronomy, gamma-ray astronomy, and ultra-high energy cosmic ray physics -- have enjoyed an increasing maturity and sophistication in experimental technique and instrumental design. Newly built and soon-to-be-operating experimental programs are pushing deeply into new performance dimensions including better background rejection, improved spectral and spatial coverage, better spectral and angular resolution, and greater overall sensitivity. An immediate result of these improvements has been an expansion and overlap of the types of astrophysical phenomena explored with various experimental techniques. Some examples include active galactic nuclei (AGN), supernova remnants, pulsars, and gamma-ray bursters -- all of which are all much better understood as a result of multi-energy and multi-wavelength studies. Furthermore, as our understanding of individual phenomena deepens, the field is making even more connections to other major areas of physics including cosmology and particle physics as well as to other general areas of astronomy. In this talk I will explore one or two examples of astrophysical phenomena and will try to describe how recent advances in and connections between different sub-areas of experimental techniques have contributed to our understanding of these objects. I will also highlight a few of the newest programs for ground and space-based experiments that should make possible an even deeper understanding of these phenomena in the near future.
