Brown dwarfs have masses intermediate to stars and planets, but their atmospheres can span planetary plasma conditions as they cool over time. They are more directly observable than the currently known extrasolar planets. In this paper, we provide a brief summary of the atmospheric properties of brown dwarfs, and apply this knowledge to predict the thermal and spectral properties of extrasolar planets.
