An analysis of previous photometric observations of the edge-on disk of NGC 3115 shows that, outside the central region where the disk fades, the face-on surface brightness can be modeled by the usual exponential power law. The deprojected scale height in the z-direction is not found to be constant with the galactocentric distance (R). The linear flare-up noted at R of about 75 arcsec indicates that the disk ceases to be self-gravitating at this radius. The results suggest that in the past the disk of NGC 3115 possessed a significant amount of gas.
