The error ellipses of 23 IRAS sources lying close to the direction of the Galactic centre have been searched in the near-infrared at L(3.5 μm). A number of objects having near-infrared colours much in excess of those caused by the general reddening towards the centre were found. These are believed to be the exciting and dust-heating stars of H II regions near the centre, some of which are also observed as compact continuum sources at 5 GHz. One of the IRAS sources is identified with a foreground late-type star. Some other near-infrared sources of high-luminosity found near IRAS positions are believed to be red supergiants or Mira variables belonging to the general population near the centre.
