Evidence for the existence of higher-order structure in the universe, including supergalaxies and superclusters, is reviewed. An analysis of 76-cm observations obtained in 1951-1952 revealed the presence of a supergalaxy containing the Local Group, with the maximum density of galaxies being in the direction of the Virgo cluster. A supergalaxy model for the Local Supercluster consisting of a flat disk with differential expansion and rotation around its center is discussed. Also considered are velocity field determinations in the interior of the Local Supercluster, the existence of supercluster 'holes', evidence for third-order systems (hyperclusters), and the application of the radiation-density relation of Carpenter to higher-order structures.
