Global anomalies in the E8 x E8 and SO(32) superstring theories
formulated on an arbitrary space-time M are discussed. Cancellation of
global anomalies in the theory results in constraints on the topology of
M. For the SO(32) theory, it seems unlikely that any interesting
manifold will lead to an anomaly-free theory.
