A statistical analysis is made of the X-ray time variability Δtx and luminosity Lx of 28 quasars and Seyfert galaxies. Under the assumption of thick accretion disk, the range of variation of the ratio between the total luminosity Lt and Eddington luminosity LEdd was found, hence the mass of the central body M(Δtx) and the size of the emission region Rx. For comparison, dynamical masses based on the Hβ and [OIII] lines, M(Hβ) and M([OIII]) were also calculated and a good agreement was found between the masses derived by these two independent means. Also, Rx was found to increase with increasing Lx (or central mass M) ; for low and medium luminosities, Rx = 5 ~ 10 Rg; for high luminosities, ~ 100 Rg (Rg being the gravitational radius).
