The physical nature of Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Titan is discussed. Astronomical observations of the outer planets are reviewed together with determinations of their masses and rotational periods. Their atmospheric compositions are described on the basis of results obtained by absorption and emission spectroscopy. The rings of Saturn are shown to consist of ice particles with diameters between 4 and 30 cm. The evolution of the outer planets is briefly discussed, and models are considered for Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
