The ACS Virgo Cluster Survey is an approved 100-orbit, Cycle 11, HST program to image 100 early-type galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. A major component of this survey will be the measurement of (g'- z') colors for more than 20,000 extra-galactic globular clusters. These data will be used to model the merger and chemical evolution histories of their host galaxies via N-body and Monte-Carlo simulations; doing so, however, will require an empirical calibration of the color- metallicity relation for globular clusters in the g'z' bandpasses. No such calibration currently exists, so we propose to use the CTIO 0.9m telescope and SITe2 CCD camera to obtain g'z' imaging for ~ 100 Galactic globular clusters. With these data, to be accumulated over the course of five bright nights, we will derive the first (g'-z')-[Fe/H] relation for Galactic globular clusters. Our proposed observations are not only essential if we are to realize the full scientific potential of the HST survey, but they will yield the highest-quality empirical color-metallicity relation yet assembled for old stellar populations.
