It is shown that with allowance for gravitational interaction, a physical vacuum is capable of dissociating in a spontaneous manner into particles and antiparticles without violating any conservation laws. The cosmological significance of this result is studied. A vacuum cosmological model is proposed, in which a vacuum is taken as the initial state of the metagalaxy. The classical Einstein cosmological equations are generalized, allowing the effect of the gravitational instability of a vacuum to be accounted for phenomenologically.
