Errors in determining the orbit of the comet Halley during its apparition in 1986 are studied. It is assumed that only maximum errors of the initial data are known. Under this condition the maximum (ensured) errors in determining the cometary orbit are computated, and these errors are minimized by means of optimization of the estimation algorithm.
