The authors present a new large astrometric star catalogue produced at Astronomisches Rechen-Institut. Compared with the SAO Catalogue this is an improvement by about a factor of 3 both in positional accuracy at present epoch and in the accuracy of proper motions, and by a factor of 1.5 in star density. A preliminary version, containing 180,000 stars on the northern celestial hemisphere is now available on magnetic tape. The final version (north) is planned to be presented at the IAU General Assembly at Baltimore.
