Observations of the structure of Cyg A at 150 MHz with a resolution of 10.5 x 16 arcsec show a strong bridge of emission linking the two components. Radio spectra between 150 MHz and 5 GHz at points along the bridge are consistent with a model in which the hot spots move outwards at a roughly uniform velocity and leave behind a population of electrons which subsequently ages by synchrotron losses in a magnetic field of 5 x 10 to the -9th T. The total age of Cyg A deduced is 6,000,000 yr and the mean expansion speed is 0.05 c. An upper limit is set to the speed of mixing of the relativistic electrons.
