New observations are presented of interstellar features in the spectrum of HD 97950, the central object of NGC 3603. The detection by Walborn (1973) of very strong 4430-A is confirmed, but with central depth 17.5 + or - 5% rather than 29.6 + or - 1.5%. With a suggested optical reddening about 1.36 this is a deviation from the mean correlation of three rather than 11 standard deviations. The diffuse band at 5780 A has strength consistent with this reddening; the Na 1 D lines are saturated and have a single velocity component quite different from the velocity of the nebula.
