In the Rayleigh-Jeans region of the thermal spectrum, the photon current density is such that multiphoton processes, such as frequency summation and pair production, may lead to the distortion of the Planck spectrum and to the underestimation of the source temperature calculated from this spectral region. Consideration of multiphoton processes may account for the absence of line spectra at the early stages of star explosions and for the broadening of the horizon of black hole events. Multiphoton processes associated with frequency summation, energy transfer, star flare spectra, and vacuum fluctuations are examined in the context of quantum theory.
