The DAOPHOT program was used to study the globular cluster M4 in order to confirm previous observations of variability made by photographic methods. A variable star with periodicity in the middle part of the red giant branch (RGB) was observed. Three other variables may be members of a new subgroup of RR Lyrae stars in globular clusters. Another star is found to be located at the intersection of the RGB and the horizontal branch.
