IR spectrophotometry of the peculiar object SS 433 from 2.0 to 2.4 microns has revealed the presence of strong emission lines of the Brackett and Paschen series of hydrogen. B-gamma at its rest wavelength was detected along with redshifted components of B-gamma, B-delta, and P-alpha, whose velocities correspond closely to those predicted for the Balmer emission lines at the epoch of observation. The strengths of the B-gamma and H-alpha lines are used to estimate a value of A(V) = 7.0-7.5 mag for the reddening towards SS 433. When corrected for reddening and free-free emission, the observed 0.55-3.5 micron continuum of SS 433 can be fitted to a single 15,700 K blackbody.
