With the data of 321 pulsars, the galactic distribution and luminosity function of pulsars have been investigated. Then the total number of pulsars in the Galaxy of 9 x 10,000 is obtained. If the mean age of pulsars is 1,800,000 years, the birthrate of pulsar will be one every 20 years in the Galaxy. This rate is not in contradiction with the birthrate of supernovas.
