From an analysis of the emission spectrum of NGC 7027, it has been argued that charge transfer of Ne2+ proceeds rapidly in collision with helium with a rate coefficient exceeding 10-10 cm3 s-1. We put forward theoretical considerations which suggest that it is very slow and that the rate coefficient is unlikely to much exceed 10-14 cm3 s-1. The rate coefficient has been measured at 300 K where it has a value of 5 10-15 cm3. We attribute the measurement to a radiative charge transfer process whose rate will change only slowly with increasing temperature.
