An increase in the descent rate calculated for Poynting-Robertson drag and corpuscular drag alone is noted in the present statistical analysis of a portion of the calculated orbital evolution of 200 cometary dust particles spiraling from within the orbit of Jupiter to about 0.3 AU from the sun. An empirical relation is derived for the cometary dust particles' descent rate upon subjection to planetary perturbations, in addition to the aforementioned drag components. Numerical simulations are then undertaken for the trajectories of these 200 30-micron radius dust particles, in order to compare the observed spatial distribution of zodiacal/interplanetary dust with that of the model cloud within Jupiter's orbit; a clear correlation is found between the two planes.
