An attempt is made to interpret the observed properties of SS 433 in terms of an accreting model neutron star. The advantage of such a model is that only a single energy release mechanism need be invoked in order to explain the energetics of SS 433. This is the liberation of energy thorugh the accretion process. According to the model, the star would have a spin period of approximately 10 sec, a magnetic moment of 10 to the 32nd gauss-cu cm, and an angle between the spin and magnetic axis of 0. The mass transfer rate in the binary system would be approximately 0.0001 solar mass/yr. It is pointed out that the neutron star spin period can only have a value close to equilibrium, and in this case the neutron star will be either braking or accelerating. According to the model used here, this should cause the precession period to change. For such large magnetic moments, the characteristic times for a change in the precession period could be very short, comparable to the time scale of observation.
