The anisotropy of the electron temperature observed by probes on Japan's Ohzora satellite is reported. The temperature of electrons along the geomagnetic field is very often higher than the temperature of electrons collected by the electrode whose normal is perpendicular to the geomagnetic field. The anisotropy increases toward higher geomagnetic latitudes. Anisotropy occurs more often in the early morning than at other times of day. There is also a tendency for anisotropy to occur more often at lower altitudes. The application of these findings to some unexplained phenomena is discussed.
