A complete correlation analysis and a linear regression analysis are used to study the relationships between mean-diurnal and mean-monthly values of the aa index and the characteristics of the interplanetary medium; data from 1963 to 1978 are used in the investigation. A regression relationship obtained on the basis of secular variations of the aa indices is used to evaluate variations of interplanetary-medium parameters. Particular attention is given to variations of the interplanetary magnetic field.
