The millimeter, submillimeter, and far infrared observations of carbon monoxide in the core of the Orion molecular cloud were summarized. The data indicate that there is a bipolar outflow producing emission at velocities exceeding 50 km/s from the centroid of the line profiles. The alignment of the axis of the bipolar flow suggest that this outflow is responsible for the shock excitation of the H2 in a surrounding shell. A substantial optical depth in the lower transitions is indicated by the detection of carbon 13 monoxide emission in the high velocity wings in the millimeter transitions, as well as by chemical models and estimates of the CO column density in this region.
