The 185 sources of the S5 survey stronger than 250 mJy at 5 GHz were mapped with the Very Large Array with an angular resolution of 2arcsec. The majority (74%) of the sources display spatial structure. Almost all (96%) sources which lie in the direction of clusters of galaxies are resolved. Sources that have a steep spectral index (α1.4-10 GHz < -0.5) are not as variable in flux density as the flat spectrum objects. The radio source positions are accurate to 0arcsec.2 in the extragalactic radio reference frame. Those positions reported for resolved sources are influenced by the detailed response of the radio structure to our synthesized beam. Fifty-six of the sources were identified on the POSS. An almost equal number of quasars and galaxies were found including 14 BL Lac objects.
