The author studies the question as to how different degrees of core overshoot influence the determination of initial masses for given cluster white dwarfs and demonstrates its strong influence on the upper limiting mass for white dwarf production. He applies the results concerning the dependence of initial masses on overshoot to LMC and SMC clusters, using updated material for cluster AGB maximum luminosities in order to derive new Mi - Mf relations, at the same time considering the influence of changes in the distance modulus. The author describes the new method for the derivation of the Mi - Mf relation by evaluation of LMC/AGB luminosity functions and discusses critically the methods and the reliability of the results.
