Radial-velocity data for COD -48°1741 are analyzed. The object has been identified as a high-velocity binary system. High-precision radial-velocity data have been obtained with a CORAVEL scanner. From 45 individual measurements of radial velocity, orbital elements have been determined. The system velocity is +307.9 km s-1 and the orbital period 7.56 days. The object has been measured photometrically in the uvby and UBV systems. A search for eclipses showed no significant evidence of variability. The uvby data indicate the main component to be a low-luminosity star of early G type with a metallicity of [Fe/H] = -1.5. Further astrophysical and space-velocity data are derived and discussed.
