Ulysses is an exploratory mission carried out jointly by ESA and NASA to study, for the first time, the properties of the heliosphere from the Sun's equatorial plane to its polar regions. This ESA Special Publication consists of a set of 8 CD-ROMs carrying data submitted to the ESA and NASA archives by the Ulysses investigator teams for the first phase of the Ulysses mission (launch up to the end of the second polar pass). This period covers the in-ecliptic transit, the fly-by of Jupiter, and the first (south) and second (north) polar passes. Disk contents. Disk 1: Magnetic-field data from the Vector Helium/Flux Gate Magnetometer, solar-wind ion and electron data from the Solar Wind Observations Over the Poles of the Sun experiment, solar-wind ion composition data from the Solar Wind Ion Composition Spectrometer, ion and electron data from the Energetic Particle Composition experiment, and sky maps from the Interstellar Neutral Gas experiment. Disk 2: Ion and electron data from the Heliosphere Instrument for Spectra, Composition and Anisotropy at Low Energies and the Cosmic Ray and Solar Particle Investigation, dust-impact data from the Cosmic Dust experiment and radio-sounding data from the Coronal Sounding Experiment. Disk 3-4: Radio and plasma-wave data from the Unified Radio and Plasma Wave investigation. Disk 5-7: Solar X-ray and cosmic γ-ray data from the Gamma Ray Burst experiment. Disk 8: Data from the Jupiter encounter.
