Binaries: Close, Stars: Starspot, Stars:Individual (V396 Mon)

Scientific paper

The W UMa-type eclipsing binary V396 Mon was observed using 1m telescope of Yunnan Observatory in 2000. The new BV light curves are analyzed using Wilson-Devinney program, and the result shows that V396 Mon is a W-subtype contact binary with a mass ratio 2.94. The light curve of the system is variable, and this phenomenon probably results from starspot activity of the components.
