We propose to take low resolution spectra of the gravitationally lensed quasar candidate C05.07 {z=2.37, R=17.3}, identified on the basis of a systematic optical survey for gravitational lenses among highly luminous quasars, conducted at ESO. This candidate consists of 2 point-like components separated by 1.75", with a 3.5 {resp. 2.5} magnitude difference in the R {resp. K} band. STIS spectra of these two close components will allow us to identify the real nature of this pair. Absorption seems to occur in the faintest component and these data should provide interesting information on the extinction law in an external galaxy. Moreover, the good knowledge of this system will improve our constraints on cosmological and astrophysical parameters, derived from gravitational lensing satistics. Should the faintest component be a compact intervening galaxy, its nature and redshift are of crucial importance in QSO- galaxy association statistics.
