This is a continuation of the Cycle 6 program GO-6499 in which high S/N spectra of two bright low-redshift QSOs {PG0953+414 and PG1116+215} were to be obtained with the GHRS G140L grating. The goal of the observations is to study the relationship between very weak {rest-frame requivalent width < 300 mA} Ly-alpha clouds and galaxies. While the observations of PG1116+215 was completed in Cycle 6, PG0953+414 was not observed in Cycle 6 due to the second HST service mission. This Phase II represents a carryover of the unfinished GO-6499 program in which observations of PG0953+414 will be carried out using the STIS/FUV-MAMA and the E140M grating. The STIS observations are expected to reach the same sensitivity as the initially-planned GHRS observations, thus allowing us to carry out the same scientific analyses.
