The surfaces of Kuiper Belt Objects [KBO's] contain a record of formative and dynamical processes in the outer solar system. Although KBO's could be a homogenous population containing primitive materials, they may instead have a diversity of surfaces caused by collisional interactions and compositional gradients within the solar nebula. Near-infrared low-resolution spectra will provide excellent diagnostics of likely surface frosts and possible organic material and will be used to characterize the surfaces of five KBO's at different heliocentric distances. These observations will also test for light-curve effects caused by rotation.
