# The purpose of this activity is to perform a series of iterative adjustments of the NICMOS pupil alignment mechanism to establish the initial optical alignment in focus and tilt for all three cameras. This proposal has been broken down into 4 sub-proposals to make implementation easier. The four phases of the NICMOS Focus/Alignment activity are: # 1} Pre-Alignment Check-out {prop 7134} 2} Coarse Optical Alignment {Initial Focus Sweep} {prop 7041} 3} Intermediate Focus/Alignment {prop 7135} 4} Fine Optical Alignment {prop 7042} # This is proposal 7134; Pre-Alignment Check-out ----------------------- Objectives: a} Check camera field-of-view positions {aperture location in V2/V3} b} Optically verify PAM mechanism operation and polarities c} Optically verify OTA offset slew polarities/magnitudes for field-of-view vs. PAM-focus compensation d} Check exposure time vs defocus e} Check field spatial density {sufficient skyaround PSFs for encircled- energy software to work vs. sufficient number of stars} f} Allow 7-10 days to calculate and upload offsets and/or fix problems before the next activity
