Recent advances in the observation of star-forming regions have shown that outflows from young stellar objects possess internal structure on scales 1015 - 1017cm, and that molecular disks are seen or suspected to exist around many of these objects. These observations are reviewed and discussed in terms of current theoretical models of wind production and star formation. A variety of observational tests are proposed which are aimed at deciding between the models.
