Attention is given to the photometric study of the open cluster C1947+272 (Turner, 1985) which is spatially coincident with the long-period Cepheid variable S Vulpeculae. Values for the reddening, distance, and age of the cluster are different from those expected for S Vul indicating that the cluster and variable form only a chance line-of-sight coincidence. Several objects are identified in the field of the cluster which are probably background B-type stars associated with the VUL OB1 complex. These provide an estimate of E(B-V) = 0.90 + or 0.02 for the space reddening of S Vul and suggest that S Vul is not as distant as Vul OB2.
