The author presents new calculations of the relativistic one- and two photon Compton scattering in a strong magnetic field. X-ray pulsar model calculations are presented for the phase-dependent spectrum, pulse shape, cyclotron line profile, degree and angle of linear polarization for the simplest slab and column models of X-ray pulsars. General relativistic effects of light bending are also discussed. The results are compared with the observational material, in particular for Her X-1. This indicates that the slab models are favored, i.e. the observed radiation is being observed preferentially along the magnetic field lines, in the form of a pencil beam.
