Under the assumption of the hydrostatic density distribution in an isothermal corona analytic expressions are derived for the total emission measure (EM) of a stellar corona. In an application to the sun it is obtained from several eclipse observations of the white-light corona that EM = 5×1048 - 5×1049cm-3, depending on the phase of the cycle. The formulae presented allow to determine, from EM and T known from X-ray observations, the density at the stellar corona base.
