Supernovae (SNe) play a vital role in galactic evolution. In starburst galaxies if the rate of star formation is high, then the SN rate should also be high. Much of the star formation, and therefore, the SNe, in these galaxies must be obscured by high dust extinction. The star formation rates in starbursts have not been reliably estimated; measuring the SN rate would provide important constraints. The SN rate in starbursts could be ~0.1-0.5 yr^-1, but SNe are going undetected optically. The logical step is to observe starbursts regularly in the near-infrared. We propose to continue taking advantage of the YALO 1-m near-IR service observing opportunity during bright time, to monitor over the semester 20 starburst galaxies once a month at K, to detect at least one SN in the galaxy sample, or to place limits on the SN rate, based on the monitoring.
