Variations in star formation rates among spiral galaxies have repeatedly been measured differently by observers using different techniques in different wavebands. To resolve this issue, star formation indicators need to be tested on a nearby starburst region where the stellar populations are resolved and star formation activity has been studied in detail. 30 Dor presents an excellent opportunity to test different measures of star formation. We propose to use OSIRIS at the CTIO 1.5 m telescope to obtain global near-infrared spectra of 30 Dor. Using this data, we can derive the star formation rate as well as other characteristics of the stellar populations inside 30 Dor. We can then compare our results to results from data in other wavebands as well as the actual star formation rate in 30 Dor. This will allow us to assess the accuracy of measuring star formation with near-infrared spectroscopy.
