The interstellar material toward stars in the Cep OB2 Association will be probed through a study of absorption lines. After three episodes of star formation, this material is all that remains of the original molecular cloud. Analysis of atomic (K I and Na I) absorption at red wavelengths, in combination with data on other atomic and molecular species already acquired at blue wavelengths, will yield information on the physical conditions for the material. In particular, gas density, gas temperature, and radiative flux will be extracted from the measurements. These derived quantities will help constrain models (1) of massive star formation and (2) of the evolution of interstellar material on Galactic scales.
