Using blue (B) and infrared (H) magnitudes in combination with line widths (W) in a single E = alpha B + beta H versus log W relation, the utility of a version of the Tully-Fisher relationship based on both the young and old stellar populations as an improved universal distance indicator is explored. Selecting data on the basis of their location in the E-surface brightness versus log W plane, the relation is found to have a smaller scatter in absolute magnitudes than the B and H single-band Tully-Fisher relations. The agreement between the values of the slope for the Local calibrators, galaxies in Ursa Major, Virgo, and the Local Supercluster is remarkable. The adopted calibrating slope of 8.3 also fits well with homogeneous data in the Pisces, Pegasus I, and Coma clusters. Assuming an infall velocity of the Local Group toward Virgo of 350 km/s, the Virgo-relative distances of these clusters are found to be within 0.2 mag of the cluster/Virgo redshift ratios. It follows that the two-color Tully-Fisher relation may be universal and not sensitive to cluster-to-cluster variations in the B-H versus log W relation.
