The recent observations of extrasolar giant planets orbiting close to their companion stars suggest that tidal interactions between the disk and an embedded planet can play a fundamental role in determining the latter's mass and orbital properties. We describe briefly these interactions and review recent work on orbital migration, focusing on runaway migration, as well as migration in magnetized and turbulent disks.
