Debris disks constitute the fall-out of collisions between comets, and by imaging these disks around nearby stars we can find out much about the planetary systems they encircle. A new picture is emerging in which cold debris around Sun-like stars is relatively common, with perhaps as many as one-third of systems having far greater dust masses than the Solar System. These systems are largely a distinct set from that of the similar stars with known radial velocity planets. A simple picture is presented in which there is divergent evolution depending on the epoch of planetary core formation versus that of dispersal of the gas disk. This may control the direction of planet migration, producing `hot Jupiters' or `cold Neptunes' as extreme outcomes. The Solar System lies somewhere in between the extremes, but the parameter space for finding similar systems is narrowing.
